Why Your Sub Zero Won't Stop Beeping ? DooR lights and LOK errors

Why is your Sub-Zero beeping all the time?

  1. The control board thinks your door is open.
  2. You have an active error code that needs urgent attention.
How to determine which problem you have?

Educated guess: more than likely you have a "top over bottom" refrigerator. Check to see if your freezer door is sealing all the way shut. Open your refrigerator door and look down. Look where your freezer door seal meets the frame of your unit. Are there any gaps in the corners? Are you building up frost or ice in the corners of your freezer? If so, you more than likely have moisture accumulated in your tracks and interior switches. This can trick your control board into thinking the door is being left open, thus triggering an alarm or the pesky d00r light on the display.

Do you have a "side by side"? simply check your switches by depressing them. Your fan/light switches are located at the top of your fridge and freezer, they are little buttons that stick out half an inch. When you depress the switch with your finger it should shut the lights off. If the lights don't go off when you depress that switch you have a bad switch. It can't hurt to just disconnect and reconnect the switch, it may fix it for the time being but it's best to just replace the switch.

How did this happen and what to check?

1. Is there anything impeding the door from closing? Like food that feel behind the baskets?
2. Are all four lower basket retainers present and in good condition?
3. Is your refrigerator leaking from under the vegetable bins causing moisture to end up in the freezer?

Here's what you should do:

Turn the machine off. Remove both the upper and lower baskets from your freezer. Grab the hair dryer. You need to defrost your tracks and your main switch. Spend a good amount of time defrosting wiping and re lubricating your drawer tracks. Use a lithium grease or silicon based lubricant on the tracks. At this point the track may be pretty beat up and need replacement.

Defrost your main switch. There is a switch in the rear left side of your unit. This switch controls your lights, your fan and even your ice maker. It may have moisture in it. It needs to be defrosted and possibly replaced. With the door open and with plenty of towels present, lay a blow drier about 10 inches from the switch. Let it defrost that switch completely.

Active Error Codes

This is more rare, is there a wrench light present? If so, you probably have an active error message dealing with components in your refrigerator that can cause a real issue. For example, this could be a problem with the ice maker that can cause a leak or a stuck relay on your control board that can freeze all your food. If a wrench is present, schedule an appointment for service. Alternatively, check out our guide on how to identify error codes for your BI series refrigerator.
